Camp Classen YMCA will hire men or women for the positions described below.  All positions require certification in First Aid, CPR and we strongly recommend that all staff be lifeguard certified (trainings will be offered at camp).  Some positions may already be filled and will vary between Main Camp and 89’er Village.  All staff members are expected to be comfortable working in a Christian atmosphere and lead a life of high moral standing.  Camp Classen will accept applicants wishing to fulfill internships for college credit.  For more information email Rick Burris.

Main Camp Job Descriptions

Main Camp is a traditional camp for boys and girls ages 8-12.  

 

Main Camp Counselors – (Great for Internships!)
Responsible for assigned activities and the health and safety of 6-10 campers for an entire session.  He/She is also responsible for developing unity and maintaining cohesiveness within the group. Counselors will also teach/assist in a program area.  Main Camp counselors, who have not been through a CIT program, must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate.  Those who have been through the CIT program can start at age 17 or the summer following his/her CIT program.

 

Main Camp Activity Coordinator – (Great for Internships!)
Responsible for planning and coordinating specific camp activities.  He/She will supervise personnel and activities schedules and coordinate all inter camp activities.  May have limited financial duties and be called to live with campers if the need arises.  Must have completed 1 year of college and be at least 19 years old.

 

Main Camp Village Leaders – 1 male, 1 female (Great for Internships!)
Supervises up to 20 counselors and serves approximately 50-150 campers.  The Village Director is an organizer, supervisor, program developer, and coordinator.  He/She assists the director in planning and implementing camp programs, supervising counselors within the unit, and is responsible for their morale and effectiveness.  He/She is also responsible to resolve camper problems that become too complicated or difficult for counselors.  Persons seeking this position should have camping experience as well as be able to multi-task.

 

Main Camp Behavior Specialist – (Great for Internships!)
The purpose of this position is to develop alternative plans to deal with negative camper behaviors in a positive and directive manner.  This person must have a child development background, but not necessarily a degree.  Emphasis in social services, child psychology, or related behavioral studies fields is a plus.  This person will work with counselors to help them better guide children in need of intervention ranging from outburst, psychological disorders, family issue, etc.  This person may live with children.

 

Waterfront Director-

Responsible for safety of all Lake Classen and lake Guy James waterfront activities. Conducts and documents regular in-service training for lifeguards. This administrator should be 21 years old, and hold current certifications in Life Guarding, CPR and First Aid.  This position is handles many of the administrative duties for Main Camp outside of waterfront duties. It is recommended that this person have lakefront and supervisory experience.  This person may live with campers.

Assistant Waterfront Director

Counselor In Training Coordinator (2) – (Great for Internships!)
Responsible for leadership development among 16 and 17-year-old campers participating in the 3 Week Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program.  Train campers to use their leadership skills in a camp setting, coordinate activities and supervise CITs during hands on experiences with Main campers.  Persons interested in this position should have skills in human relations, leadership abilities to work and live with more mature campers and the ability to coordinate and direct leadership programs.  Will live with campers. 

 

Chaplin/ Raggers & Leathers Coordinator

Coordinates meaningful chapels daily. Responsible for creating an inviting, personal atmosphere for campers and staff to participate successfully in the Raggers/Leathers program.  He/She will introduce the program, maintain a log of all participants, coordinate Raggers and counselors, conduct individual and group discussions, schedule/lead Ragger ceremonies and assist counselors in the Leathers program.  He/She may also live with campers and be responsible as a counselor.

 

Camp Photographer – (Great for Internships!)
Responsible to the Camp Directors for all aspects of camp photography and production of camp promotional materials.  Computer/Internet skills are required.  Ensures that pictures are being taken that present a safe, fun and friendly atmosphere at camp. Posts camp pictures on the Internet for parents and campers to view.  Organizes photos to be used for promotional materials. This person may live with campers.

 

Clinic Specialist/Camp Nurse

Responsible to the Camp Director for health and safety of all persons in camp.  He/She will work with the camp director in setting up the clinic, training staff in daily observances in health and first aid, and handle all medications given to campers and staff.  The Nurse will maintain daily medications/First Aid records and will complete forms required by insurance companies and health departments.  The clinic specialist must be a Registered Nurse, should be at least 21, able to adapt to outdoor living and is desired he/she participate in camp activities.

 

Main Camp Clinic Specialist 2

Responsible to the Clinic Specialist, he/she will serve as an assistant to the head nurse in Main Camp as well as the on call clinic specialist for 89er Village.  See above for more details.  This person should be at least 21 years old, able to adapt to outdoor living and is desired he/she participate in camp activities.  He/She should hold a certification as a EMT, RN, LVN, or other advanced first aid certification.

89er Village Job Descriptions

89er Village is an adventure trip program, traditional camp and ranch camp for teens 13-15 years old

 

89er Village Counselors – (Great for Internships!)
Responsible to the Directors for assigned activities and the health and safety of 8-12 campers.  He/She is also responsible for developing unity and maintaining cohesiveness within the group. May also assist at the ranch with the Frontier Adventure program.  Counselors will also teach/assist in a program area while in camp.  Persons seeking this position should be 19 years old or a rising college sophomore and have some knowledge of outdoor living skills.

 

89er Trip Directors
Responsible to the Director for leading various high adventure trips out of camp for 13-16 year olds and is responsible for coordinating all assigned trip schedules including departure and return dates, meals, staffing and transportation.  This person should be at least 21 years old, hold a current, valid Driver’s License with an excellent driving record and current CPR, Lifeguarding, and Wilderness First Aid certifications.  Tripping skills, supervisory skills, and experience with teenagers is a plus.

 

89er Village – Village Leader

Frontier Adventure Job Descriptions

Equestrian program for 8-16 year olds

 

Wrangler-Responsible for equestrian activities and safety. 

He/She is also responsible for the health and safety of the horses and maintaining equipment under the supervision of Equestrian Director.  He/She will teach western style riding and lead trail rides for all campers.  Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) certificate is recommended, not required.  The person may live with campers.

Wrangler-In-Training Coordinator

Responsible for working and planning the WIT program with the Equestrian Director.  They will work together as a team, training 16 and 17-year-old campers to use their leadership skills in a camp setting, teach barn safety, animal and tack care, and assign them to a hands on experience with Main Campers during trail rides and elective classes.  Persons interested in this position should have skills in human relations, leadership abilities to work and live with more mature campers and the ability to coordinate and direct leadership programs.  May live with campers.  Must have extensive equine knowledge.
